In-Ground Storm Shelters in Tulsa & Northeast Oklahoma

In-Ground Storm Shelters in Tulsa & Northeast Oklahoma

Concrete. In-ground. Built to exceed FEMA standards. Because in Tornado Alley, your family’s safety isn’t optional.

Oklahoma is in the heart of Tornado Alley. Summit’s primary focus is concrete in-ground storm shelters — the safest type of residential tornado protection available. Every shelter we build meets or exceeds FEMA 320/361 standards and is rated for EF5 tornado wind loads.

Our concrete expertise is what makes Summit’s storm shelters different. The same engineer protocols and rebar-on-chairs construction that goes into our foundations goes into every shelter. These aren’t prefab drop-in units — they’re poured-in-place concrete structures built to protect your family for generations.

Answers to Common Questions

How much does a storm shelter cost in Oklahoma?

Storm shelter cost depends on size, access location (garage floor vs. yard installation), and site conditions. We custom quote all projects — a free on-site consultation with Alan gives you an accurate estimate for your specific property.

In-ground or above-ground — which is safer?

In-ground concrete shelters provide the highest level of protection because they’re below the debris field. That’s why Summit focuses on in-ground construction. Above-ground safe rooms are available if you have a specific need, but in-ground is our recommendation.

How long does it take to install a storm shelter?

Most in-ground storm shelter projects take 2 to 4 weeks from excavation to completion. Garage-floor installations may require additional time for concrete cutting and curing.

Can you install a shelter in my existing garage floor?

In many cases, yes. Summit can cut and excavate through an existing garage slab to install an in-ground shelter, then restore the concrete around it. Alan will evaluate your garage during the free consultation.

Are your storm shelters FEMA rated?

Yes. All Summit storm shelters meet or exceed FEMA 320/361 standards and are engineered for EF5 tornado wind loads — the highest rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
