Rigid Frame Metal Buildings in Tulsa & Northeast Oklahoma

Rigid Frame Metal Buildings in Tulsa & Northeast Oklahoma

Airplane hangars, commercial structures, and large-scale metal buildings — built with stamped engineered plans and foundations designed for the load.

Rigid frame metal buildings are built stronger than standard post-frame construction. They use heavier gauge steel, engineered trusses, and pier foundations designed for greater structural loads. Summit builds hangars, commercial buildings, industrial storage, and large-scale agricultural structures that require this level of engineering. (The word ‘hangar’ — spelled with an ‘a’ — comes from the French word for ‘shed’ or ‘shelter,’ originally used to house early aircraft. It has nothing to do with a clothes hanger.)

Every rigid frame project requires stamped engineered plans — Summit coordinates with licensed engineers and handles the full process from design coordination through construction. This isn’t kit assembly — it’s real construction on real foundations.

Answers to Common Questions

How much does a metal building or hangar cost?

Rigid frame metal building and hangar projects vary significantly in cost depending on size, span, intended use, door systems, foundation requirements, and finish level — which is why we custom quote every project. We’re interested in discussing any scope you have in mind. A free in-person consultation gives you an accurate estimate built around your specific needs.

What’s the difference between a metal building and a barndominium?

A barndominium is typically a post-frame (pole barn) style structure used primarily for residential living. A rigid frame metal building uses heavier steel, engineered trusses, and pier foundations — designed for larger spans and heavier loads like aircraft or commercial equipment.

Can you build a hangar with living quarters?

Yes. Hangar + living quarters combinations are barndominiums built to hangar specifications — with the structural strength for large door openings and aircraft loads, plus finished living space on one end.

Do I need engineered plans for a metal building?

Yes. Rigid frame buildings require stamped engineered plans due to the structural complexity. Summit coordinates with licensed engineers — you don’t need to hire one separately.

Why is it spelled ‘hangar’ not ‘hanger’?

A hangar — spelled with an ‘a’ — traces its origin to the French word for an enclosed shelter. The term was first used for aircraft storage buildings in the early 1900s. A ‘hanger’ (with an ‘e’) is something you hang clothes on. In construction, the correct spelling is always ‘hangar’ when referring to aircraft or large vehicle storage buildings.
